{"id":79870,"date":"2011-10-23T01:33:39","date_gmt":"2011-10-23T01:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2011\/10\/23\/awareness-on-disaster-management-at-raj-bhavan\/"},"modified":"2011-10-23T01:33:39","modified_gmt":"2011-10-23T01:33:39","slug":"awareness-on-disaster-management-at-raj-bhavan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2011\/10\/23\/awareness-on-disaster-management-at-raj-bhavan\/","title":{"rendered":"Awareness on disaster management at Raj Bhavan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/TCHYOOKBHNTJOTVBHPFC.jpg><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On the request of the office of state governor Nikhil Kumar, state disaster management authority, home department on October 21 conducted a workshop on \u2018disaster management and awareness\u2019 at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhawan. <\/p>\n<p>The programme was conducted in collaboration with home guards and civil defence who demonstrated on fire safety, first aid and search &amp; rescue techniques. <\/p>\n<p>SDO (Civil) Sadar Wennyie Konyak, in his speech he briefed the audience on the role of the administration in disaster management and the need for community participation. Stressing on the need for awareness, the SDO remarked that awareness though spread through the media, was also sometimes \u2018mismanaged.\u2019 He said, media should also play a responsible role in disaster management. <\/p>\n<p>R. Ramakrishnan, Secretary to Governor, while addressing the audience thanked NSDMA for taking up disaster management on a large scale. Referring to the recent earthquake in Sikkim, he said that disaster could strike anytime and therefore there was an urgent need to sensitize and educate the public. <\/p>\n<p>A power point presentation on the topic \u2018Disaster Preparedness\u2019 was given by Khrolo Koza, training and capacity building officer. <\/p>\n<p>Johnny Ruangmei, state project officer speaking in the programme shared his experience as part of UN staff sent to help out during the devastating Tsunami in South India a few years back. Portraying how disaster strikes and extent of human helplessness at the fury of nature, he implored the audience to take disaster management seriously. <\/p>\n<p>Highlight of the programme was demonstration by home guards led by Kohima district commandant, Dally Jamir. <br \/>\nThe staff of Raj Bhavan was also invited to get hands on experience with the assistance of the Home Guards while pamphlets on disaster management were also distributed.<\/p>\n<p>Programme was chaired by the state media officer, Keren Rose.
