DIMAPUR: Naga Peoples Movement for Human Rights (NPMHR) kick started the \u2018Remembering Oinam 1987 & Mao Gate 2010\u2019 Saturday at Tahamzam (Senapati) by taking out a \u201cCaravan of Anguish\u201d.\nA press release issued Convenor, NPMHR (South) Chingya Luithui stated that in the \u201cinfamous Operation Bluebird\u201d of 1987, the Assam Rifles killed 15 persons, tortured hundreds, and raped and molested many women. Operation Bluebird stands testimony to the most inhuman disregard and violation of the rights of the Nagas. NPMHR also said it was not the first incident, neither the last as Nagas continued to experience similar instances of violation of their rights.
\nCiting example of the incident at Mao Gate, Loshou and Chakho, on May 6 last year, where two young students were killed and hundreds, including women, were injured, NPMHR affirmed justice and accountability for these inhuman acts were still being denied to the victims.
\nIt further went on to add that 24 years after approaching the Guahati High Court, victims of Operation Bluebird were still awaiting justice.
\nMany have since died as a result of the torture perpetrated on them during the Operation, added NPMHR. Further, NPMHR alleged in the backdrop of the almost 14 years of negotiation between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (IM), incidents like those that occurred on May 6 at Mao Gate.
\nIn Tahamzam, the main programme will take place Sunday at the Mini Stadium. NPMHR is organising the programme to draw attention to the violation of rights and denial of justice for the victims. NPMHR hopes the programme will also create a collective sense of responsibility, solidarity and ownership of these dark incidents, and to collectively move toward getting justice.
\nThe programme would continue till May 6 with similar acts and performances taken to other Naga areas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
