Despite tension that has gripped the state because of March 5 incident, some organizations in different districts in the state honoured women on this day.<br \/>\nMOKOKCHUNG, MAR 8 (NPN): \u201cInternational Women\u2019s Day\u201d was observed at Mokokchung Town Hall, Sunday under the theme \u201cmake it happen\u201d. The programme was jointly organized by Watsu Mungdang and Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority.<br \/>\nIn the programme, the key speaker Advocate Watitemjen explained about the structure and functioning of the Mokokchung District Legal Services Authority and highlighted about sexual harassment and domestic violence meted out towards women.<br \/>\nShe informed the gathering about the ways and means for seeking legal remedy and justice for such violence against women.<br \/>\nWati also highlighted some of the basic rights as enshrined in the Constitution of India for women.<br \/>\nShort speeches were delivered by Dr. Kilangla, L Obangla and Dr. Imlirenla Walling. The function was hosted by president Watsu Mungdang Achila Imsong and a special song was presented by Sashisola.<br \/>\nEarlier, the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung Sushil Kumar Patel, IAS felicitated and awarded Dr. Imlirenla Walling with the \u201cZila Mahila Samman Award\u201d(district level, chosen from the state of Nagaland) for outstanding services towards upliftment of socio-economic conditions, education, culture and others aspects of women empowerment and child welfare &amp; protection.<br \/>\nDr. Imlirenla Walling is the first recipient of this award, since the award was constituted by the present NDA government in the month of September 2014. <br \/>\nWinning this award she is now eligible for the National level award as well. In her acceptance speech, Dr. Imlirenla Walling attributed the award to her late father Imchasashi Walling, who had always encouraged her to serve the society. <br \/>\nDr. Imlirenla Walling then said that this acknowledgment has encouraged her to bear \u201cgreater responsibility\u201d towards women welfare and society.<br \/>\n(Correspondent) <br \/>\nKOHIMA: Kohima District Legal Services Authority (KDLSA) celebrated \u201cInternational Women\u2019s Day\u201d with hostel girls, at DC conference hall, Kohima, under the theme \u201cmake it happen\u201d. <br \/>\nAt the programme, NJS, chief judicial magistrate, Kohima and KDLSA secretary Mezivolu T Therieh, while delivering welcome address expressed that the gathering was a fulfillment of the aims and objectives of the legal services authority and extended appreciation to everyone present. <br \/>\nIn her speech, Therieh observed that \u201cour society today is at its worst scenario with so much lawlessness and anarchy around\u201d.&nbsp; <br \/>\nPointing out that \u201cwe\u201d cannot bring positive change by defying the rule of the law, she said for a society to progress and be prosperous all has to contribute and usher in change.<br \/>\nShe then quoted the line \u201cchange will come even if we do nothing, but it will not be the change we want\u201d from one of the speeches of the present chief justice of Supreme Court.<br \/>\nPanel lawyer Ashu Theyo spoke on the topic \u201ccrime against women and its protective laws\u201d and highlighted the prevailing crimes against women and tools and measures to deal with such kind of situation.<br \/>\nHe said that social structure and patriarchal mindset towards women, topics of women\u2019s rights have come about and cited Nirbhaya\u2019s gang rape case and how justice was meted out to her through the proper procedure of law by awarding capital punishment to the accused persons. <br \/>\nTheyo then said change will come though it may not be as fast as expected. <br \/>\nMeanwhile, senior director health rights, human law network (HRLN) Sanjai Sharma spoke on the topic \u201claws relation to girl\u2019s health\u201d and highlighted the acts and schemes implemented by the government of India to secure the health of a girl child. He said that it was possible to stop the elements who are making girl\u2019s \u201cuneasy\u201d by using the laws and that all the laws are in the books but if it is not used, it is just a paper. <br \/>\nHe encouraged the girls to read the laws and practically apply them for their benefits and safety.<br \/>\nStudent representative Asino Visa, in her speech said that it is important to educate a girl child stating that if a girl is educated the whole world will be educated. <br \/>\nShe highlighted some of the prominent women around the world like late Indira Gandhi, late Kalpana Chawla, late Annie Besant etc their contributions towards the betterment of the society. <br \/>\nSpeaking on the theme guest speaker NJS, registrar, Gauhati High Court Kohima bench, Y. Longkumer encouraged the girls to make a difference in the society with their positive attitude and to be involved and to be aware of the things happening around. <br \/>\nShe said that being in a male dominated society, gender inequality is the main thing that was pulling down the status of a women. <br \/>\nLongkumer challenged the girls that whatever men can do, women can also do it and even do it better and said that women are the architect of the society and therefore challenged all women to come out and make a generation of women which will make things happen.<br \/>\n&nbsp;She gave tips to the girls to build a reputation right from now, focus on their strengths, find a mentor and have certain values in life which would help them to become strong citizen in the society. <br \/>\nIn conclusion she said that instead of watching and wondering what others do, it should be them who should make things happen. <br \/>\nLater, the programme followed interactive session where the students enthusiastically participated and clarified their queries and doubts. <br \/>\nDIMAPUR: Healthcare and hospitality students and trainers observed International women\u2019s day at Pinnacle Skills Training hub, Nagarjan, Dimapur on the theme \u201cempowering women with skills\u201d.<br \/>\nH&amp;FW deptt. to commemorate \u2018International Women\u2019s Day\u2019<br \/>\nMeanwhile, to mark \u201cInternational Women\u2019s Day\u201d, department of health &amp; family welfare, government of Nagaland will be organising a number of activities to observe the occasion in a befitting manner.<br \/>\nIt has been informed that from March 9-11, \u201cSpecial Health Camps for Women\u201d will be held in 10 District Hospitals of Kohima, Dimapur, Mokokchung, Wokha, Peren, Zunheboto, Longleng, Phek, Mon and Kiphire. <br \/>\nServices during the health camps will include Ante Natal Care (ANC), Post Natal Care (PNC), Identification of high risk pregnant women, availability of Referral transport, availability of drugs, diagnostics &amp; Mother Child Protection (MCP) cards to all beneficiaries, Family Planning services, Promotion of Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) &amp; Janani Suraksha-Shishu Karyakram (JSSK) entitlements and Counselling services for women in the reproductive age.<br \/>\nIn addition, during the health camps, screening for Cancer of the cervix will be conducted in the three District hospitals of Kohima, Mokokchung and Dimapur. The NHAK at Kohima will also provide screening for breast cancer during the camp in Kohima. <br \/>\nFelicitation of 66 Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) for outstanding performance will be organised onMarch 11, , in the 11 district headquarters (one ASHA per block ASHA Co-ordinator). The felicitation will include a citation and cash incentive. <br \/>\nBesides, Interpersonal Communication (IPC) campaign to promote Women\u2019s Health and motivate women to adopt health seeking behaviour will be carried out by the urban ASHAs of&nbsp; Kohima town on March 9-10. <br \/>\nThis IPC campaign will target women vegetable sellers &amp; shopkeepers in and around the main town.
