{"id":86485,"date":"2012-02-10T01:06:03","date_gmt":"2012-02-10T01:06:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2012\/02\/10\/rs-2-8-crore-worth-liquor-ganja-destroyed\/"},"modified":"2012-02-10T01:06:03","modified_gmt":"2012-02-10T01:06:03","slug":"rs-2-8-crore-worth-liquor-ganja-destroyed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2012\/02\/10\/rs-2-8-crore-worth-liquor-ganja-destroyed\/","title":{"rendered":"Rs.2.8 crore worth liquor, ganja destroyed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/QYDJPPHNKSGTVNTRXDLB.jpg>In one of the biggest exercise carried out by excise department Dimapur, more than 20,000 bottles of liquor worth Rs. two crores (national market) and more than 3000 kilograms of ganja worth Rs. 80 lakhs (national market) and 167 boxes of locally banned gutka \u2018Tez\u2019 were destroyed Thursday here at new excise complex Lingrijan in the presence of Naga Women Hoho, Naga Hoho, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), Dimapur GBs Association (DGBA), police and excise personnel.<\/p>\n<p>According to the excise department, the liquor was seized during the last five months for which over Rs. 3.8 lakhs fine was imposed. There were 144 cases of seizing Narcotic drugs (ganja) during the last eleven months. <\/p>\n<p>In the liquor related cases, there were a total of 154 persons accused.&nbsp; 979 litres of country liquor were destroyed on the spot while 7 persons have been accused of indulging in the trade. Two vehicles were seized by the department.<\/p>\n<p>The superintendent of excise and prohibition and member secretary destruction board, Dimapur, Pitongse Sangtam appreciated the contribution of commissioner of excise and director of prohibition, Nagaland, commanding officer and all ranks of the 29th and 20th Assam rifles, CEO and council members of DMC and all field workers and jawans under the superintendent of excise, Dimapur. <\/p>\n<p>He also sought continued co-operation from police department for forwarding cases under NLTP act and also for joint operations and intelligence sharing, district administration under the deputy commissioner, Dimapur. Sangtam urged all village councils, ward members, GBs, women leaders, church leaders, students leaders and media under Dimapur district for a successful implementation of the NLTP Act.<\/p>\n<p>It may be mentioned that in the last eleven months, the excise department Dimapur had generated 11.3 lakhs rupees through fines and penalties.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; font-style: italic; color: #ff0000;\">Church, NGOs, unions urged&nbsp; to play vital role<\/span><br \/>\nCommissioner of excise and prohibition, Nagaland, Dimapur, Maongwati Aier said that total prohibition could be enforced in the state with the help of various organizations, NGOs, association and unions.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking at the destruction of liquor and drugs, Thursday here new excise complex Lingrijan.<br \/>\nEncouraging the public to extend all possible help in implementing the NLTP Act, the excise commissioner suggested churches, as it initiated the implementation of the Act, to take the lead in providing alternate employments to the liquor sellers who have to depend on the trade for looking after their families.<\/p>\n<p>The excise commissioner also suggested that state education department to include liquor and drugs education in the syllabus for high school students so that they would be well informed about the ill effects of consumption of liquor.<\/p>\n<p>Deliberating on the ills effects of liquor consumption, the&nbsp; excise commissioner said that 80% of alcohol that were smuggled into the state was adulterated and that many Nagas have died due to excessive drinking of liquor. He added that many more become \u201cunfit\u201d to be enrolled in the uniform service.<\/p>\n<p>The excise commissioner then disclosed that the home affairs and defense ministry of India has approved the modernization of the state excise department in terms of providing right equipments, vehicles, wireless etc. and also added that excise personnel would also be issued arms soon.<\/p>\n<p>On NLTP Act, the excise commissioner was of the view that prohibition act should not be lifted as it would make have an adverse impact on the society.<\/p>\n<p>Maongwati Aier&nbsp; also said that the smuggling of contraband substance (ganja) into and through the state was very difficult to control.
