Scherri-Lee Biggs fronted an advertising campaign for clothing brand Mossimo that asks people to submit candid peepshow-style photos to win prizes, judged by her.<\/p>\n<p>The Advertising Standards Bureau has received several complaints and is investigating after users hijacked the site last week to air their views.<\/p>\n<p>One user dubbed \u201cNaughty Nicole\u201d uploaded a picture of herself holding a sign that read: \u201cmossimo peepshow = sexist rubbish\u201d.<br \/>\nThe post and a similar one attracted far more votes online than any of the legitimate entries &#8211; images of entrants doctored to look as if they have been taken through a peep hole. <\/p>\n<p>Anti-sexploitation campaigner Melinda Tankard Reist said that the campaign, which promoted Mossimo\u2019s new underwear line, made a joke out of people who leered at women without their knowledge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt normalises and mainstreams the idea of peeping,\u201d the Courier Mail quote Reist as saying.<br \/>\n\u201cPeeping isn\u2019t funny for women, it isn\u2019t amusing. We have a whole phenomenon of upskirting, which is a form of peeping as well,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>The scandal comes at a bad time for Biggs, who last week signed a lucrative deal with New York modelling agency Women Management.<br \/>\nShe is seeking to firm up her modelling career following the end of her year-long tenure as Miss Universe Australia in June.<\/p>\n<p>However, Mossimo marketing manager Leanne Wall rejected the accusations, saying the campaign was \u201cjust fun and light-hearted\u2019 and not designed to reference unlawful peeping or the sex industry.<br \/>\n\u201cI think that\u2019s an interpretation,\u201d Leanne said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe phrase peep show doesn\u2019t necessarily always mean it\u2019s from the sex industry,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nLeanne accused Tankard Reist\u2019s group, Collective Shout, of whipping up undue controversy about the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>She said the winning photo would be the \u201cmost unique\u201d, not the most sexy, and that the in-store advertising had been received positively.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had some great feedback from the windows &#8211; it\u2019s actually caused people to stop and have a look because Miss Universe looks like she\u2019s having so much fun in the window,\u201d Leanne added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miss Universe Australia has been embroiled in controversy over a new advertising campaign accused of glorifying peeping Toms.
