{"id":88570,"date":"2013-03-12T23:23:56","date_gmt":"2013-03-12T23:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/03\/12\/open-naga-wrestling-championship-starts-march-15\/"},"modified":"2013-03-12T23:23:56","modified_gmt":"2013-03-12T23:23:56","slug":"open-naga-wrestling-championship-starts-march-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/03\/12\/open-naga-wrestling-championship-starts-march-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Naga Wrestling Championship starts March 15"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/HJJWECZWNPHXCGUFGOTA.jpg>Correspondent<br \/>\nThe 8th edition Open Naga Wrestling Championship (NWC) would be held on March 15 at local ground Kohima, hosted by Angami Sports Association (ASA), NWA which comprises of three tribal units &#8211; Angami, Chakhesang and Zeliang. <\/p>\n<p>This was announced by the organizer during a press conference held at Angami Public Organization Hall, Kohima on March 12.<\/p>\n<p>The organizer informed that more than 100 participants &#8211; Poumai from Senapati district, Wokha, Peren, Kohima and Phek district would take part at the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The organizers also informed that the prize money for 1st, 2nd, 3rd 4th, quarter finalists and pre-quarter finalists are Rs. 1, 20,000, Rs. 80,000, Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000, Rs. 5000 (each) and Rs. 3000 (each) respectively and has asked players to come to local ground Kohima on March 14 for briefing. <\/p>\n<p>During the early years, the association focused only on the old traditions followed by the fore fathers with no proper rules and regulation, said Neisievilie, president ASA and added prior to 1972, the tournament was organized under the aegis of the Federal Government of Nagaland where it was considered as one of the most important indigenous game with no \u201cism\u201d and was also considered a \u201cfriendship building platform\u201d among the Tenyimi community.<\/p>\n<p>Neisievilie said many years back the Angamis and the Chakhesangs took part in a friendly Naga style wrestling when members of the Chakhesang community came to Kohima to clear land for construction of the present Naga hospital. <\/p>\n<p>Earlier, it was not about winning the competitionbut rather an exposure to display their strength and vigor, he added.<\/p>\n<p>Today, he said the rules and regulations of the sport was more refined with attractive prizes and that the profession has become more lucrative where players too have developed skills and techniques.<\/p>\n<p>With the growing interest and popularity of Naga wrestling, the concept of organizing the \u2018Open Naga wrestling\u2019 came into being where opportunity is given to all the wrestlers within the state as well as from outside to participate without filtration from village\/range\/units level.<\/p>\n<p>This opens opportunity for all wrestlers who by chance or for various reasons cannot make it to the main NWA biennial tournament in spite of having ample chance for participation in the higher levels or winning the prizes\/ championships. <\/p>\n<p>The championship has become a regular event held every alternate year when there was no NWA tournament since 2001.<\/p>\n<p>The other members who attended the press conference were Neikhrolo Khalo president NWA, Nitsizo Peseyie pub. &amp; inform.
