Joint Action Committee on Women reservation (JACWR) has sought \u201cimmediate\u201d intervention of Governor Nikhil Kumar, state chief secretary and NPCC urging them to honour the High Court order on women\u2019s quota in \u201ctoto\u201d and in ensuring protection of women\u2019s rights. <\/p>\n
In separate memorandums submitted to the Governor, chief secretary and opposition leader Tokheho Yepthomi, JACWR said that Naga Hoho and ENPO, \u201cconsist of only male representatives of the various tribes\u201d and there was \u201cnot a single woman representative\u201d within these two organizations. <\/p>\n
JACWR said when half of the total population was not taken into account, it was \u201cevident\u201d that there was \u201cinjustice and discrimination\u201d within the Naga society.<\/p>\n
JACWR hoped that the respective offices would honour the High Court\u2019s order and protect women\u2019s rights by \u201cadhering to the stipulations of reservation of seats for women\u201d and ensure that the civic elections scheduled for April 2012 were \u201cconducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner\u201d.<\/p>\n
Stating that Naga women organizations were preparing to \u201cset up consensus candidates\u201d in all the wards reserved for women in 19 Municipal\/town councils, JACWR said that it expected the state legislators to \u201chonour their word\u201d and stand by Nagaland Municipal Council First Amendment Act, passed by them. <\/p>\n
