Two minor children of a family were charred to death while the mother and another minor escaped with serious burnt injuries, after the house in which they resided caught fire in upper NST Colony, Wokha Tuesday at around 11:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
According to sources, the fire completely razed down a three-room thatched house when the four children and mother were sleeping. <\/p>\n
Two minors identified as Angelina Patton (8) and Charles Chonbenthung Patton (7) died in the fire incident.The minors were studying in Class 2 and KG B at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Wokha. <\/p>\n
The bodies of the two minors were retrieved only after 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was brought under control by the youths. The youngest child escaped unhurt. <\/p>\n
The mother who sustained serious burn injuries while trying to save her children, and the eldest one who is also stated to be in serious conditions, were later shifted to Kohima Wednesday. <\/p>\n
Some youths of the colony, who rushed to the spot to contain the fire, alleged that fire tenders did not turn up. The youths also claimed that despite repeated phone calls the fire tenders could not be reached.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, St. Paul\u2019s Catholic Church, Wokha Town has expressed pain over sudden and untimely demise of Charles Chonbenthung Patton and Angelina Patton children of Augustine Patton. <\/p>\n
Church secretary Chopathung Kikon, on behalf of the community, conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, and prayed God would grant them the strength and courage at the time of sorrow.
