This day has been celebrated every year since 2003 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Kasturba Gandhi.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\u2018Safe Motherhood Day\u2019 was observed on April 11 in Medziphema block and Niuland block under Dimapur district. In Medziphema, Dr. K. Tali Ao, Paediatrician and Kezenino, ASHA co-coordinators delivered health awareness talk on safe motherhood and child care to the participants. In Niuland, Nathan, FWA and Orensali, ASHA coordinators held group discussion and awareness talk on safe motherhood with the mothers.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>KIPHIRE: With an aim to create awareness on safe motherhood reaching to grassroot level, awareness campaign was carried out in Kiphire district on April 11. Kevichol Sale, health education officer, IEC bureau directorate of health &amp; family welfare, Kohima along with IEC personnel from chief medical office visited Anatonger village, Yingshikiur Village, Amahator Village and Singrep Village. ASHAs and nurses were also involved in the awareness programme where the church platform was utilized for observing \u2018Safe Motherhood Day\u2019. Information on the importance of antenatal care, natal care, post natal care were highlighted on local television cable network of Kiphire town and Anatonger village. IEC materials like posters and leaflets were also distributed.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>MON: \u2018Safe Motherhood Day\u2019 was observed in Mon promoting \u201chealthy mothers\u201d on April 11 at CMO office organized by NRHM (IEC) with chief medical officer as chief guest. The chief guest, in his speech, said mothers attend to the uncountable demands in the family, yet her basic health care is ignored or neglected especially during pregnancy and delivery. He suggested on primary health care for pregnant women and at least 3 ante natal check-up and institution delivery. He also highlighted the facilities available in district hospital and benefits of JSY. Bonnie, DPM spoke on \u2018Safe motherhood\u2019 where she elaborately informed and explained on high risk pregnancies, stilled birth, maternal death etc., and also highlighted on the importance of ANC, PNC and various test conducted and encouraged institutional delivery or delivery with the help of skilled birth attendant. She also counseled on adoption of basic health care and how to prevent on complications in future especially during pregnancy. ASHA co-coordinators, Hingkai chaired the programme and also spoke on \u201cexclusive breastfeeding\u201d, premature birth, low birth weight etc.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>ZUNHEBOTO: Zunheboto district observed \u2018Safe Motherhood Day\u2019 on Thursday at CMO office chamber. In a brief programme, CMO Dr. G. Hokishe Sema spoke on the significance of the day and importance of mother and child health. He also highlighted some safety and precautionary measures to be followed during pregnancy. CMO urged ASHAs in the villages to be pro-active in assisting pregnant mothers for regular ANCs and provide essential health care to the mothers. The programme was chaired by district media officer, NRHM, Shekho Sophie while vote of thanks was delivered by district programme manager NRHM, Avikali Jakhalu. The programme was followed by short Focus Group Discussion (FGD) held in south point colony, Zunheboto where health talks were given by district programme manager NRHM, Avikali Jakhalu and block programme manager Suruhuto, Peacetoli. IEC materials were also distributed.<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<div>WOKHA: District health society, Wokha department of health &amp; family welfare, observed \u2018Safe Motherhood Day\u2019 on April 11. District IEC personnel visited District Hospital and distributed leaflets, posters to the patients, and interacted with the female patients on the importance of maternal health, which include the must 3 ANCs, care during pregnancy, and the benefit of institutional delivery which can prevent complications during delivery.
