Urban Development, Municipal Affairs and Taxes minister, Metsubo Jamir, on Monday inspected Mokokchung town to assess the feasibility of constructing optional sites for car parking, retaining walls to prevent landslides and analyze what measures could be taken in accident-prone roads.<\/div>\n
Speaking to media persons after the inspection, Metsubo said the main priority of his ministry was to ensure public safety, convenience and beautification. Minister said his priority for Mokokchung Town was to upgrade the blocks constructed along the outer edges of accident-prone roads site at Tongdentsuyong Ward into road parapets (small running walls), to avert future accidents. <\/span><\/div>\n
According to the minister, his other priority was widening the road from the DC\u2019s office to DC Bungalow (including the Circuit House). Metsubo also expressed the desire to construct a multi-purpose commercial complex with a parking lot at the site of the Old Town Hall and another parking lot, adjacent to Imkongmeren Sports Complex, to ease traffic congestion.<\/span><\/div>\n
With regard to the traffic congestion, the minister urged entrepreneurs to venture into the bus transportation service business so some vehicles would stay off the road. <\/span><\/div>\n
Further, he opined that late shop opening (excepting health care sector outlets like pharmacies etc) and late closing could dramatically ease the traffic woes. Metsubo disclosed that his ministry was in the process of recreating two parks of the town and revamping the unfinished P. Shilu Park.<\/span><\/div>\n
