A Tata Sumo driver was shot and killed at point blank range near Tichipami village under Zunheboto district Friday at around 7 p.m. by a person who had hired the vehicle to carry goods of a marriage party from Mokokchung.<\/p>\n
According to a delayed report, the accused Dilip Kumar Bahadur (25) son of Thankur Bahadur and resident of Signal Basti Dimapur, had hired the Tata Sumo in Mokokchung, from the owner Islam Hussain. <\/p>\n
On reaching Tichipami, Dilip took out the shotgun and at point blank rainge, shot dead the driver Anar Hussain, son of Nazim of Chenapatti village, Nagaon.<\/p>\n
While struggling to extract the empty case from the barrel, the co-driver MD Morduza fled and reached Tichipami. When villagers went to the site, the accused had driven off with the vehicle. <\/p>\n
The accused drove towards Suruhuto and dumped the dead body of the driver on the outskirts of the town. <\/p>\n
He then proceeded to the NSCN (K) camp and attempted to sell the Tata Sumo. However, on seeing blood splattered on the vehicle, the camp inmates became suspicious and arrested the accused and seized the vehicle. <\/p>\n
Later the NSCN (K) handed over the accused to OC Suruhuto, Akaho Hesso at around 10 p.m. The dead body was later retrieved from a gorge on Saturday at around 3.30 p.m.<\/p>\n
The news of the shocking incident angered people and a large mob surrounded the Suruhuto Police Station demanding that the accused be handed over to them. <\/p>\n
The outnumbered policemen tried to restrain the angry mob and it was only after the intervention of SDO(C), ATC Chairman and elders of the town that the situation was brought under control.<\/p>\n
The GBs Association, Sumi Totimi Hoho,Students Union and Literary Board Suruhuto Area condemned the murder and warned individuals or groups not to bail out the accused. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
