The team comprises of 36 doctors from various departments and other paramedical technicians drawn from various parts of the country.<\/span><\/div>\n<div>In Dimapur, a total of six doctors comprising of two cardiologists, a general surgeon, physician, ENT surgeon and gynaecologist from Mumbai have begun the three-day free medical camp in the District Hospital Dimapur Saturday. The timing of the camp is 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and after a break on Sunday, the OPD will resume from Monday.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The free medical camp has been organised with the initiative of Nagaland Governor P.B.Acharya and organised by Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), Mumbai in collaboration with Rotary Club of Bombay North, Indian Academy of Echo-cardiology, Dr. K&amp;T Keditsu Foundation, Kohima and Cancer Patients Aids Association (CPAA).<\/div>\n<div>Talking to Nagaland post, general surgeon, Dr. Chandra Shekar Joshi confirmed that a large number of patients were diagnosed with oral cancer caused by consumption of smokeless tobacco. He said the high number of cases also indicate that consumption of tobacco in Nagaland was also very high.<\/div>\n<div>\u201cAs many as 95 per cent of the patients of all age group in this camp are found to be afflicted with complaints associated with eating Ghutka and smoking cigarettes. These are considered to be a first pre-cancer stage. If they continue to use Gutkha and cigarette, it would lead to major problem,\u201d said an ENT surgeon Dr. Sanjay Ghildiyal, who conducted patients in the camp.<\/div>\n<div>Dr Ghildiyal opined that consumption of tobacco was a cultural practice and way of life in North East. He said people need to be aware of the consequences and felt that greater awareness was needed through social media including churches.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>He appealed to those having heart problem to avail of facility for diagnosis and also screening test to detect early signs of cancer by gynaecologist, ENT specialist and physician.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>He informed that a team of doctors and paramedical staffs are engaged in the camp with all equipment for screening of the patients.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Making an observation of the camp on the first day, cardiac surgeon Dr. Mushin Ansari from Hinduja hospital, Mumbai, and Dr. Sanjay Upreti from Medanta,Gurugram( Gurgoan), said that majority of those who attended were ignorant about health conditions as many of them had high blood pressure. They felt there was very little awareness among people about non-communicable diseases.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Neeta More, one of the organisers and CPAA executive director informed that the camp will be held on Monday till Tuesday. She said that most of the people who attended the camp included tobacco users.<\/div>\n<div>More said the camp was the first of its kind in Nagaland since 1987. She maintained that CPAA came into being in 1969 with founder chairman and CEO, YK Sapru.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>She said out of 2,70,000 screened till date, a total of 519 were found afflicted with various cancerous diseases.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The camp will provide screening tests for ENT, blood test, breast check-up and Pap test &amp; 4PV.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The team has also appreciated Governor of Nagaland PB Acharya for taking up the task to organise the camp along with the vision of Dr. H. Palep Rotary Club, Mumbai, North.<\/div>\n<div>Nurses from the DHD, student nurses and staffs of DHD have been engaged to attend the patients in the camp.<\/div>\n<div>Governor of Nagaland P.B. Acharya, who arrived Dimapur visited the venue of the medical camp and interacted with the doctors before leaving for Kohima.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>Also in Kohima, through the initiative of state governor P.B Acharya and in collaboration with Indian National Fellowship Centre, four doctors from the \u201cFriends of Nagaland\u201d and two doctors from India Academy of Echo Cardiologist, Mumbai are currently in the state capital on a three-day free medical camp at NHAK. The camp began Saturday and will resume on Monday, after a Sunday break.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The camp on Saturday was conducted by Physician and Intensivist Dr. Suparna Nirgudkar is leading the team along with Surgeon specialist Borwankar, radiologist Amol Samant and anaesthetist Leena Samant from Friends of Nagaland and Dr. Hrishikesh Shah and Dr. Vatsala Shree from India Academy of Echo Cardiologist.<\/div>\n<div>Talking to Nagaland Post, Dr. Suparna spoke highly of the infrastructure in NHAK while at the same time, felt there was need for a super specialists like Neurologist and Gastroenterologist.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Dr. Suparna said that the NHAK also requires more technicians to complement its excellent equipments and facilities available.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>She also informed that the team has brought advanced drugs worth Rs.3 lakhs for free distribution for patients. She said Echo machines (for heart) provided GE Company Mumbai will be used in Kohima and Dimapur.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Surgeon Dr. Umesh Borwankar and Anaesthetist Dr. Manjiri Ranade MD observed that there was good infrastructure in OT yet there were only two anaesthetists for five operation theatres.<\/div>\n<div>Dr. Suprana informed that in the next visit, their team will bring more doctors sometime in April 2017.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>She also disclosed that after their visit in April 2015, a report had been submitted for improving health care to the state government.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>The doctors expressed their willingness to train state doctors in Pharco Cataract surgery and endoscopy in Thane and also to use Phaco machine.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Dr. Suparna appealed public to come and avail the facilities provided by the team of Friends from Nagaland and also in Kohima and Mokokchung where free medical camp will be held till November 29.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A 54-member medical team that arrived Nagaland on Friday has begun free medical camps in seven districts of Nagaland including Dimapur, Kohima and other districts.
