The Hollywood icon said in an interview that he thought it was possible his voicemails may have been intercepted in the past. <\/p>\n
He did not elaborate further, but his comments make him by far the highest profile celebrity to come forward in the ongoing scandal.<\/p>\n
He also gave an insight into how he would handle such an invasion of his privacy – and vowed to \u2018stand up to bullies\u2019.
\nCruise, 49, is one of the most powerful celebrities on the planet – with an estimated wealth of \u00a3150 million.<\/p>\n
He has huge financial firepower to take on Mr Murdoch\u2019s News Corp, which owned the now defunct News of the World.
\nIf it was proven that the Mission Impossible star had been hacked it would also be a public relations disaster for the media company, and would put Mr Murdoch under even more pressure to step down.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Playboy magazine Mr Cruise was asked: \u2018The night Princess Diana died you called CNN to talk about how the intrusiveness of the press had gotten out of hand. <\/p>\n

It had been previously been reported that Mark Lewis, the British lawyer for the alleged phone hacking victims, counted a \u2018Hollywood case\u2019 among his three clients who will soon be filing lawsuits in the U.S.<\/p>\n
In the Playboy interview, Cruise gave a clear indication of his plan of action. He said that, when he is wronged, he first asks for an apology – but often takes things further because \u2018you have to\u2019 stand up for yourself. <\/p>\n
He said: \u2018There\u2019s one thing you know with a bully. I don\u2019t care how big or mean they are. There are different ways to do it….but sometimes just confronting them works.\u2019 <\/p>\n
Mr Cruise is married to designer and actress Katie Holmes, 33, and they have a daughter together, Suri, six.
