{"id":98193,"date":"2013-05-27T01:10:42","date_gmt":"2013-05-27T01:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2013\/05\/27\/ao-senden-decides-to-close-down-highways\/"},"modified":"2013-05-27T01:10:42","modified_gmt":"2013-05-27T01:10:42","slug":"ao-senden-decides-to-close-down-highways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2013\/05\/27\/ao-senden-decides-to-close-down-highways\/","title":{"rendered":"Ao Senden decides to close down highways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/>As a reaction to the May 24 incident in Mariani\/Amguri area, Ao Senden, the apex body of the Ao community has decided to close down the two highways (Mariani and Amguri) connecting Mokokchung district with Assam from May 28, 6 a.m. for an indefinite period till such time some understanding was reached between Nagaland and Assam governments.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Ao Senden president Dr. Sangyu Yaden and general secretary Tsupong Longchar demanded action against Mariani MLA Rupjyoti and his supporters who had assaulted and injured innocent Naga travelers and damaged their vehicles besides seeking adequate compensations to the injured and for the damaged vehicles.<\/p>\n<p>Ao Senden also urged the state government to take up the foothill road between Mokokchung and Dimapur on a priority basis. The Ao apex body has also asked the state government to deploy village guards in border areas.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Ao Senden warned that till the government fulfilled all these demands, it would enforce the closure of highways to Assam. <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold; color: #ff0000;\">DC expresses shock<\/span><br \/>\nDeputy Commissioner (DC) Mokokchung Murohu Chotso has expressed shock over the incident in which Adivasi activists blocked the Mokokchung-Mariani road and physically assaulted three Naga travelers besides causing damage to vehicles on May 24 near Mariani petrol pump.<\/p>\n<p>Pointing out that the violence and road blockade was contrary to the goodwill gesture shown Mokokchung district administration, Murohu Chotso reminded that on May 23, two \u201cmiscreants\u201d identified as Ranjit Nayak and Atul Kurmi were apprehended by land owners of Saringyim village after they were found destroying the fields and handed them over to Longchem police station.<\/p>\n<p>The DC said that following the request of Border Peace Coordination Committee members from Nagaland, the two were sent back to Mariani on the same day escorted by EAC and SDPO Mangkolemba.<\/p>\n<p>To make the issue clear, the DC has asserted that Saringyim village was established by Ao Nagas in 1920 and located within the undisputed territory of Nagaland.<\/p>\n<p>The DC recalled that peace prevailed in the areas with \u201creciprocity and recognition of each other\u2019s culture, tradition and territorial limits.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Following this tradition, he reminded that a portion of Saringyim village measuring 64 acres was given on lease to Naganijan Tea Estate at Rs. 2475 as annual rent with five packets of tea leaves as annual gift.<\/p>\n<p>However, the DC said the tea labourers began clearing the jungle well beyond the leased 64 acres in February 2012 and also in April 2013.
