{"id":98849,"date":"2016-11-07T23:57:29","date_gmt":"2016-11-07T23:57:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/151.106.38.4\/2016\/11\/07\/trained-teachers-needed-for-quality-education-yitachu\/"},"modified":"2016-11-07T23:57:29","modified_gmt":"2016-11-07T23:57:29","slug":"trained-teachers-needed-for-quality-education-yitachu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nagalandpost.net\/index.php\/2016\/11\/07\/trained-teachers-needed-for-quality-education-yitachu\/","title":{"rendered":"Trained teachers needed for quality education: Yitachu"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img src=\/old_site\/YKCTCCTJKSQTWYNDBKXF.jpg><\/p>\n<div><span style=\"font-size: 10pt;\">Minister for School Education and SCERT Yitachu in a startling disclosure on Monday said 42% of around 24,000 government teachers in Nagaland were untrained while 15% of government schools numbering 172 primary and middle schools were being run by single teacher.&nbsp;<\/span><\/div>\n<div>This has been a major stumbling block to provide quality education, said Yitachu while addressing the two-day national seminar, sponsored by Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), on \u201cquality teacher education: issues and challenges of two year B.Ed programme\u201d organized by department of teacher education school of humanities and education Nagaland University, Kohima held at Meriema campus.<\/div>\n<div>He also said it would take 10 to 15 years to train up all untrained teachers since the current intake for B.Ed course in the state was less than 1000 seats annually. &nbsp; Yitachu said it is a serious matter that recruitment of unqualified teachers in education department has only become like a source to solve the unemployment issue, compromising the careers of students.<\/div>\n<div>On the other hand, he lamented that though Right To Education (RTE) policy of the Central government has improved infrastructures besides upgrading and opening of new schools, the enrolment in 622 schools were below 30 students.<\/div>\n<div>Yitachu also expressed concern that the No Detention Policy has affected the education system in the state, where students get promoted to higher classes despite their dismal performance. In order to tackle the issues, particularly to provide quality education, he said the state government has taken the initiative to train the untrained teachers, wherein in-service teachers are given the opportunity to take up B.Ed training.&nbsp;<\/div>\n<div>Despite the need for more institutions to accommodate in-service teachers to be trained, he said the government would not be able to encourage opening of more B.Ed colleges in the state, keeping in mind that institutions would only become commercialized and not focussed on imparting quality training. He urged upon the teachers to be truthful, sincere and to change their attitude to bring in positive change with commitment.<\/div>\n<div>Dean faculty of education S.V University AP, Prof. P.A. Reddy in his keynote address maintained that in order to sustain growth and development, quality education was a must and which placed great responsibility at the hands of teachers. He however added that the goal could only be achieved with trained teachers.<\/div>\n<div>He called upon the teachers to realize that teaching is a profession with responsibility and not just for mere for employment purpose.<\/div>\n<div>Seminar convenor Dr. M.
