PWD Durga Puja Committee which is celebrating Puja with two special themes-Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan- conducted cleanliness drive Friday morning at Midland, Landmark, and PWD colony.<\/span><\/div>\n
Volunteers of the committee along with residents of the three colonies swept streets, removed weeds and cleared blocked drains. Apart from the cleanliness drive, the committee also installed \u2018green dustbins\u2019 made of bamboo in various locations.<\/div>\n
To mark the occasion, a brief programme was later organised at PWD Office compound, also the Puja Pandal spot, with brand ambassador Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Dimapur, Geoffrey Yaden.<\/div>\n
Speaking on the occasion, Yaden expounded on the importance of cleanliness and remarked that if cleanliness starts from one\u2019s own home\/backyard, then the entire city will be clean, adding that cleanliness was a \u201csocial responsibility.\u201d<\/div>\n
He expressed joy over the celebration of Durga Puja with a practical theme for the first time in the city.<\/div>\n
The brand ambassador appealed for concerted effort towards making Dimapur the cleanest city not only in Nagaland but in the whole north east.<\/div>\n
While pointing out that Swachh Bharat Mission was a voluntary movement with no financial assistance from the government, Yaden asserted only voluntary involvement in the mission will bring progress as involvement of money would derail the mission due to vested interests.<\/div>\n
A congratulatory message from the governor of Nagaland P.B. Acharya to the PWD Durga Puja Committee for celebrating Puja with a social cause was also read out by the chief guest.<\/div>\n
Short speeches were also delivered by president NPF (M) Central, Bishnu Bhattacharjee, chairman of Midland Council, Sanen Ao, and GB Midland Colony, K.Zhimomi.<\/div>\n
Bhattacharjee thanked the volunteers and highlighted the initiatives of the Puja Committee while Sanen Ao and K.Zhimomi lauded the efforts of the committee towards promoting cleanliness.<\/div>\n
 Earlier, Sanjay Dey welcomed the gathering and presentation to chief guest and invitees by secretary PWD Durga Puja Committee, Prem Singh. The function culminated with vote of thanks by Prem Singh.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
