ENCSU also questioned the department’s attitude towards the backward tribes of the state.

Further, the union expressed surprise over the change of the department’s stand on the matter after receiving additional MBBS and BDS seats.

ENCSU said when it first requested the department to use 2014 method of filling the vacant seats by the BT candidates, the department had stated that they could not do anything as the selection for the seats was done by the Common Selection Board (CSB). However, ENCSU said now the department violating its own stand was trying to allot the additional seats by the NEET qualified candidates. The union described department’s move as “a direct challenge and insult” to the union in particular and backward tribes in general.

ENCSU alleged that the department was able to allot the vacant seats by using different forms of methods when it was in the interest of others. But when the BTs urged the department to give them their due share, the union said the department brought up all the lame excuses “just to deprive and discriminate the people from Backward Tribes.”

ENCSU further expressed surprise that the notification from the director was issued even before the decision of the cabinet was disseminated to anyone.

In the light of the above, the union has conveyed to the department and the government that in the event of failing to fulfil their demands, the union would be “compelled to take extreme steps deemed necessary to safeguard the interest of the BTs.”

ENCSU reaffirmed that it would not compromise till the demands mentioned in the ultimatum served on chief secretary on July 26, 2016 were addressed and justice delivered.

Meanwhile, the union has appealed to all the members “to stay physically and mentally prepared” to respond to its call in case the union was compelled to call for the next phase of agitation “which may be sudden and severe.”

Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has expressed dismay over the notification issued by the department of technical education (DoTE) director calling for spot counselling on September 28, 2016.
