Community awareness programme on \u201cHarmful effect of Tobacco and COTPA 2003\u201d for police personnel of 4th NAP Thizama Kohima was held at Regimental School Hall, Thizama on September 27.<\/div>\n
According to DIPR report, commandant 4th NAP Battalion, Thizama Kohima, Vekhosa Chakesang, NPS in his short speech expressed his gratitude to the Health & Family Welfare department for coming forward to sensitise the police personnel as well as school children. He highlighted some of the internal problems faced by the battalion personnel in terms of insufficient medical assistance, financial problems and other related family problems since most of the time the police personnel are deployed away from their family. He also requested the department to remember the unit if any training for regimental medical officer or medical staff are to be conducted. <\/div>\n
District Nodal Officer, NTCP Kohima, Dr. Arenla Walling, as resource person, highlighted on the background of tobacco and its scenario in Nagaland. She said tobacco is now the world\u2019s leading single agent of death where 5 million total number of deaths in every year. She further highlighted on the prohibition Act of COTPA 2003 where the defaulters would have to pay certain amount of fines. She urged all the participants to create awareness and advocate the community and to further comply with the law and report the violators.<\/div>\n
The participants also took a pledge on Anti-Tobacco which was administered by the nodal officer of the district where the commandant called upon his police personnel not to smoke around the vicinity of the unit and spoil the image of their uniform. <\/div>\n
He also asked the school children to refuse their parents when they were asked to buy tobacco products for their parents so as to create awareness among the family. Around 300 numbers of police personnel and the school children and teachers attended the programme.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
