Phek Town Youth Society (PTYS) on Friday claimed that the society has detected several anomalies at Government Higher Secondary School, Phek.
In a joint statement, PTYS general secretary Neizote Venuh and publicity & info secretary Nuyi Hoshi alleged that as per the RTI filed on August 26, 2015, the principal was found involved in “corruption and mismanagement”.
PTYS alleged that after the school fee structures are finalized during the staff meeting, the principal “re-fixes” them later, stating that he was the administrative head to decide. With exorbitant fixation of fees, the students particularly from surrounding villages and from below poverty line background find it hard to pay their fees, PTYS said.
The society also alleged that “fees collected for human resource development are being misused for personnel and domestic expenditures”.
PTYS said after the RTI replied was received, it had thoroughly investigated into the issue matter. The RTI response claimed that school had carried out several developmental works, they said. However, if such amount was judiciously used, Phek GHSS would have been the best government school in Nagaland, it added.
Amount to the tune of almost Rs. 20 lakh was collected from students, PTYS alleged. PTYS has questioned whether the Govt. Schools had the right to collect developmental fees?
Further, alleging that the students were overcharged by collecting Rs. 400 per exam, PTYS said in reality it could be managed by Rs. 70 per exam. At times, students were even made to tear their notebooks to write their unit tests, PTYS alleged. As per the details, several cash memos were shown as payments made to the government, however, no government challans were found to support the same, they alleged.
The society accused the principal of functioning in a “dictatorial” manner, which it said was hampering the right to education to the students.
The vice principal, headmaster and colleagues have not been given any specific assignments and there was no coordination with the teachers and staffs, PTYS alleged.
PTYS said it would not allow such activities to hamper the students’ career. “This cannot be accepted and cannot be compromised”, PTYS said.
PTYS has demanded the concern authority “to suspend and terminate” the principal from the service at the earliest and to take immediate measures. It further cautioned saying, those people supporting the principal would be directly propagating corruption to flourish.
Meanwhile, PTYS clarified that during the meeting of the Phek town frontal organisation, it (PTYS) never signed for transfer of three teachers and the principal rather it only signed for presence in the meeting.
PTYS said that it neither supported the transfer nor was against it. The news on PTYS signing for transfer was misleading, it added.
