
State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Nagaland conducted three days training on “improved management practices of swine and poultry” from October 15 to 17 at SAMETI, Medziphema.
The training was aimed at preparing ATMA functionaries from all districts with management practices of swine and poultry, so as to enable them to pass such practices to the farmers.
The training topics included Housing Management of swine, feeding management of swine, routine management, care of new born, care during pregnancy, vaccination schedule of swine, important common swine diseases and their treatment, farm hygiene and sanitation measures, profitable poultry farming – special reference to backyard poultry and management of poultry.
Resource persons were assistant professor, department of APM, SASRD, NU Dr. Catherine Rutsa, VAS Dr. Sungkum Jamir, DPD, SAMETI Dr. Ithika C. Swu, DLDO and farm manager Medziphema Dr. Imomanen Tzudir and VAS Dr. Vikshe Sumi.
The trainees were also taken to All India Coordinated Research Project Pig Farm, SASRD NU for field visit and first hand information on pig farming. Altogether 22 ATMA functionaries from all the districts attended the training.
The valedictory function was chaired by DPD SAMETI, Sentinaro Longchar while feedback from the trainees was given by DPD Tuengsang Vinoka Y. Kiba and BTM Mokokchung, C. Amongla Jamir respectively.
Director SAMETI Nguzonyi Wetsah in his valedictory address exhorted the trainees to be sincere and put into practical use what they had learned in the training for uplifting the farming community. Director also awarded certificates and training handouts to the trainees. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by DPD SAMETI Dr. Ithika C. Swu.
