Nagaland too small to be divided: Alemtemshi

In an oblique reference to the demand of Frontier Nagaland, the state’s former chief secretary Alemtemshi Jamir on Saturday said Nagaland as state was “too small” to be divided, saying “Naga history is intertwined and cannot be separated”.
Alemtemshi further asserted that the historical process today is not independence but inter dependence. He also stressed on the need to seriously and sincerely think of unity amongst the Nagas.
He said this while addressing students during the 19th fresher’s meet of Eastern Naga Post Graduate Students’ Union (ENPGSU) Nagaland University Mereima at Ura Academy, Saturday.
Asserting that Nagas should remain united, Alemtemshi said if Nagas remain fractured then it would go against the “current historical process”. He then asked the intellectuals of Eastern Nagaland to think in such a way that any challenges, in the future, could be met together in a “rational manner”.
On Indo-Naga political issue, Alemtemshi said there was a need to redefine the “freedom we know and seek now”. He said that true freedom is of thought, belief, action, right to life, food, work education and health.
He also urged the students to research on the economic status and come up with some innovative ideas to reform State economy saying even the government needs guidance to bring about economic growth.
Exhorting the gathering, pro vice chancellor NU Mereima, Professor Pardeshi Lal urged the students to explore their potential through available resources and to come on top at whatever they are pursuing. He said that opportunities are enormous and success is a matter of pursuance. Lal advised the students to have the right orientation, develop personality and confidence.
The gathering was enthralled through special number by ESPGSU executives and cultural display. Presidential address was delivered by Heme Khiamniungan, speech on behalf of freshers’ by Rizi Sangtam and vote of thanks by M Shaboh Konyak.
