Cabbages from Phek, now at cheaper rate in Dmu

* No Taxes paid to reach Dmu
Distribution to local suppliers
In the aftermath of the physical assault on a local Naga business man by some traders at Murgipatti on July 2, Phek District Cabbage Farmers assisted by ACAUT transported 67 tonnes of locally grown cabbages to Dimapur Monday night and stored the consignment at the Tenyimi Complex, near DDSC Stadium, bypassing the earlier trend of selling the produces at Murgipatti to non-local syndicates.
The consignment arrived Dimapur at around 10 p.m. and as informed on Saturday, no tax in any form was paid along the way at any of the check gates .
This was considered an achievement as earlier cabbage consignments had to pay thousands of rupees at various gates on way to Dimapur. The cabbages at Tenyimi would be distributed to local buyers and suppliers.
Horticulture department has ventured to facilitate the farmers with marketing and storage needs for the time being.
Local farmers have deeply resented the harassment faced by them at the hands of market syndicates when they had to sell their produce at throwaway prices. This was since they found it impossible to take back their goods after travelling all the way to Dimapur .
It was reported, that local cabbage growers had to sell at wholesale price of Rs.10 per kg while the retail price was Rs.40 per kg.
Failure of authorities to keep a tab on prevalent market price fixations allowing market syndicates to take advantage of the situation against local farmers.
The availability of the cabbage at cheap rates would also provide opportunities for the unemployed Naga youths to start retail shops . Farmers informed that the cabbages would be sold at Wednesday bazaar in Super Market area on July 15 at a very reasonable rate. For more information one may contact 8974-87-5654.
