GPRN/NSCN chairman ‘Gen(Retd)’ Khole and general secretary N.Kitovi Zhimomi, said they were deeply disturbed by the action of the government of India in “enforcing inhuman Armed Forces Special Powers Act and the Disturbed Area Act in Nagaland.”
According to MIP, the GPRN/NSCN leaders termed the action as “an extremely insensitive decision on the part of the GoI, against the Naga people” and that “acts of aggression of this nature do not augur well for the GoI’s look east policy”.
GPRN/NSCN asked, if S.S.Khaplang “sitting in his hutment in Burma, abrogates the cease fire with the GoI, does it merit GoI to enforce the draconian laws in Nagaland?”
GPRN/NSCN said it was in ceasefire with the government of India including few other groups. It maintained, that a negotiated political settlement acceptable and honourable to the people of Nagaland was the only way towards stability in the region.
However, it said empowering the military with AFSPA and Disturbed Area Act “ to crush the aspirations of the people” had not and will never succeeded.
GPRN/NSCN reminded that the “Indo-Naga problem” was a pre-independent India political issue which the British Crown was well aware of.It cited the memorandum submitted to the Simon Commission on January 10,1929 as a testimony.
GPRN/NSCN said it believed that the government headed by prime minister Narendra Modi “has the wisdom and courage to correctly analyse and address the historical and political rights of the Naga people” in which, an honourable and acceptable political solution, was the only answer. Stating that Nagaland “is a tiny nation, yet our history and existence, is as distinct as India, British or American history’ It maintained that when land and history was threatened, “resistance, be it violent or peaceful, is inevitable”.
GPRN/NSCN pointed out that cease fire between two entities was in operation in Nagaland and despite provocations, it continued to observed the cease fire ground rules “in letter and spirit”.
Further, it said Naga people were also aware of the “reign of terror of the Indian military in the past” and had defended their land and people “with utmost courage and sacrifice”.
GPRN/NSCN reasserted, that ,military atrocity upon the indigenous Naga populace would be counter productive and for which, the world community would not applaud the world’s largest democracy either.
