Reports on Tokhu Emong festival celebration

Akuk village: Akuk village under Wokha district celebrated Tokhü Emong with deputy commissioner Peren Peter Lichamo Humtsoe and planning department project coordinator Er. Mhathung Kithan as chief guest and guest of honor respectively on November 7 at Akuk GHS compound.
DC Peren Peter Lichamo, while addressing a large gathering of Akuk villagers, acknowledged and recalled the sacrifices and hard work rendered by Akuk village forefathers in securing a large tract of land full of natural resources for the generations to come.
He also called upon the student community to be sincere and hardworking in order to excel and bring laurels to the village.  Acknowledging ex-parliamentary secretary Er. W. Kithan and former education commissioner and secretary Mhathung Kithan for the up-gradation of GMS Akuk to GHS Akuk, the chief guest also reminded the  villagers to remember how the foundation of the GHS Akuk was laid under the initiative of then former 40 Bhandari MLA and current state home minister Yanthungo Patton. DC Peren Peter Lichamo also inaugurated the newly constructed Akuk village gate earlier on November 6.
Guest of honor Er. Mhathung Kithan reminded the people to understand the importance of Tokhü Emong celebration. He also urged the villagers to practice honesty and punctuality in their lives.
Head GB (rtd.) Phyochamo Patton dwelt on the significance of the Tokhü Emong festival, Head GB Thungchamo Patton delivered words of greetings, Head GB (rtd.) Yizao Ennio exhorted the festival gathering, Akuk Village Council chairman Ratsemo Patton delivered welcome address, and Rentsamo Odyuo proposed vote of thanks at the Tokhü Emong celebration function chaired by horticulture department deputy director (DHO) N. Jerry Patton. Short speeches were also delivered by land resources department DPO Nribemo, electrical JE N. Rumphio, NU assistant registrar Mhonrao, and information and public relation department APRO Yanthithung. A ceremonial mass prayer invoking God’s blessing for Akuk villagers was led by Sanis Parish priest Rev. Fr. Mhabemo Humtsoe while invocation and dedication for the day-long Tokhü celebration were offered by Akuk Baptist church pastor Renben J. Ovung and home evangelist Rev. T. Odyuo. Other highlights of the function included presentation of folk songs by both men and women of Hayili, Chankilan and Olongo Khels, contemporary songs by New Band, Thungbenshan Kithan and party, and by Nagaland Guitar Prodigy-2014 winner Sulanthung Odyuo. The Akuk village Tokhü Emong 2014 celebration was hosted and sponsored by Akuk Village Council and officers of Akuk village.
Lakhuti village: Parliamentary secretary for women resource development and border affairs, Thomas Ngullie hosted Tokhu Emong at Lakhuti village ground which was marked by stone pulling (monolith) ceremony, cultural song competition and distribution of prizes. Men folk from the village participated in the ceremony and erected the monolith at the village ground. Addressing the gathering, Thomas said assured his best to bring all round development to the village and sought the cooperation of all the villagers to fulfill his vision and . He also urged the villagers to live a righteous life.
According to villagers, the last stone pulling ceremony was held after a gap of nearly 70 years. Women and men from eight khels of the village competed in traditional song and rice pounding competitions. The winners of the various competitions were awarded prizes sponsored by the parliamentary secretary.
On the occasion of Tokhu Emong, Lakhuti Village Council chairman, Mhathung Humtsoe urged the villagers to forget and forgive past mistakes and deeds and sought support and cooperation of all villagers for greater benefit of the village. Other special invitees including regional manager, HUDCO, Myinthungo Yanthan also spoke on the occasion. The programme was followed by a grand community feast. Lotha Hoho Peren: Lotha Hoho,  Peren town celebrated Tokhu Emong on November 7, at Tepukie River with much fun and gaiety. History of the festival was delivered by Chairman Lotha Hoho Peren.
