Zhavame vill earning Rs. one cr in a season

Zhavame village, a village under Phek district has earned the distinction of being the “vegetable village” of the state after being announced as one of the most successful village in terms of producing vegetables specially cabbages and potatoes.

Disclosing this on the sideline of the two days training programme on hi-tech vegetable production for whole year round production under vegetable initiative for urban cluster Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojna (RKVY) Thursday here at the conference hall, state horticulture nursery, 4th Mile, Dimapur, horticulture director, Watienla Jamir, who was the chief guest disclosed that the village which the department has adopted to implement the project “vegetable village” (rainfed vegetable cultivation on high hills) said that the village itself involving the entire community earns more than Rs.1.54 crore from vegetables out which Rs.1.10 crore were generated from cabbages and potatoes alone per season in a year.

She also said that it was the collective efforts of the department and the entrepreneurs (farmers) from the village which houses around 550 families to get the distinction at the same time generating self employment and self sustenance for the villagers.
