Seminar on “Legal literacy and awareness” with the elders, DBs, youths, students and women was held at the Library Hall, Judicial Court Building here under the aegis of district legal services authority (DLSA) Zunheboto October 31.
Highlighting the topic “equality before the law”, additional district & sessions judge (ADSJ) and DLSA Zunheboto secretary Neiko Kanou stressed on the ‘order for maintenance of wives, children and parents’ under section 125 of Code of criminal procedure 1973, the ‘special marriage act 1954’ and briefed the importance ”Legal Marriage Certificate”.
He also deliberated on the ‘Motor Vehicle Act’ 1988, ‘Right to Information Act’ 2005, and ‘Consumers Protection Act’ 1986.
Advocate Katovi Awomi, who was the other resource person at the seminar, lauded the DLSA Zunheboto for organising the programme.
He spoke on the Constitutional rights of women, highlighting the ‘Protection of women from Domestic Violence Act 2005’, ‘Indecent Representation of Women Prohibation Act 1986’, Immoral Traffic Prevention Act 1956’, Special Marriage Act 1954’ and the ‘Family Courts Act 1984’.
Awomi also deliberated on the “duties” of police officers, protection officer, magistrate, shelter homes and the government respectively.
Another resource person advocate Anne Sumi delivered a note on “gender equality”. Earlier, the programme began with greetings and introduction by civil judge and DLSA Zunheboto deputy secretary OP Phom.
