Nagaland minister for industry & commerce and NIDC Ltd. Chairman S. Pangnyu Phom maintained Catholic institutions in the state played a vital role in the field of imparting quality education and helped in raising the state’s literacy rate to 80 percent in the country.
Pangnyu Phom was speaking on the occasion of Silver Jubilee celebration of St.Joseph High School, Longleng town as chief guest here Friday.
Stating that among the many private schools in the state, Catholic schools played a noble role in imparting quality education, Pangnyu further said after the existence of St.Joseph School in Longleng, many educated people in the district have come up and a good number of them were leading in different fields today.
While lauding the pioneers and present authority of the school for their tireless efforts, he said one must look back on the past activities and what they have achieved during the last 25 years.
The minister said Jubilee celebration was not only for rejoicing but one has to be vigilant in recalling those past years and reconcile and think for the future by rededicating once again so to create a brighter and healthy society.
Earlier, the chief Guest inaugurated the school entrance gate and unveiled the Jubilee monolith, which was blessed by St.Xavier`s Parish priest, Jalukie Father A. Antonyswamy.
The new Block of the school was also inaugurated by DC Longleng Libanthung Lotha and blessed by Kohima Diocese vicar general Father Carolus Neisalhou.
Other highlights of the day long programme included several items presented by school children and nearby villagers.
Phomla Hoichem office inaugurated In the morning, Pangnyu Phom also inaugurated the newly constructed Phomla Hoichem (Phom women association) office cum multipurpose building in Longleng district headquarters.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest lauded the Phomla Hoichem for the tireless efforts that womenfolk took up for the construction of their own office.
Asserting both men and women were equal in this fast changing and developing world, Pangnyu said women were the main torch barrier to bring changes in the society and bring unity among the different sections of the people as God has gifted them with unique talent.
While delivering her welcome speech, Phomla Hoichem president Shamthai Phom highlighted about the construction of the building.
She expressed gratitude to all individuals, societies and officers of the district for their contribution, financially, materially as well as through manpower, towards the construction of the building.
