Er. Vekho recognized for his work on Netaji

All India Legal Aid Forum has awarded Er. Vekho Swuro, chairman of North East Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Lovers Forum for his pioneering work on “Delhi Chalo: Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Last Camp in Nagaland” and his contribution to social activities in India on September 28 at Bangla Bhavan, Hailey Road, New Delhi.

“Discovery of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: Delhi Chalo Last Camp in Nagaland” is a book written by Er Vekho Swuro and was translated into Bengali by Uma Bhowmick.

Speaking on the occasion, Er Vekho said the book talks about the hidden stories of World War II. In his book Vekho mentioned that Subhash Chandra Bose intruded into Nagaland particularly in Phek district and met the Naga public and displayed weapons at Ruzazho village.

He said the villagers of the region did great service to Netaji and his INA troops by giving away their resources in the form of paddy, animals and other items necessary for their survival.

Not only did they give away their resources, but also by their timely intervention and quick thinking, helped the man and his troops escape from an advancing British army towards their camp at British Bungalow, Chesezu Village, he added.

The INA under Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose approached the Nagas with love and sincerity. There is no record of atrocities against women or torture and abuse of the Naga public by his troops; the rights of Nagas were respected. There was no discrimination or division based on race, caste, religion or gender, Vekho said.

He further mentioned that people of North East viewed that ‘Indian Independence’ was born from the Northeast as the INA’s strong resistance of the British boosted the confidence of jawans in other parts for disobedience in British-India Army.

He appealed to the gathering to uphold the spirit of oneness in the country in the way Netaji tried to unite people irrespective of their religious affiliations during the war.

In conclusion, Vekho Swuro said that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Memorial Development Society was relentlessly working on to build ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Memorial Military School’ in Nagaland and also to make ‘INA and Subhash Chandra Bose memorial Park’ in Phek district.
