TBC youth dept stages ‘Nelly: The Musical’

Nelly: The Musical, a high school musical from the memoirs of Nehemiah, written and directed for the stage by Nividi Kevichusa and music directed by Nise Meruno, was staged at Town Baptist Church, Dimapur, November 1.

The musical had a cast and choir of 45 young students and relied only on tracks as its background music, with only one live band towards the end.

Nelly is based in an American high school set-up, where he is the head boy of his high school in-the-city. He is originally from a small town, but migrated to the city.

He makes lots of friends and is very popular in his high school. He is the head boy, and win tons of awards for his school and the Principal is very pleased with him. Life couldn’t be better for Nelly.

Then one fine day, he hears that his hometown had been attacked by the terrorist group, and it lies in ruins and rubbles. He is deeply troubled, he knows that he is in a nice and safe place in the city, but his own home town and folks are in great trouble.

He gets down on his knees and prays to God and he decides to do something about it. He gets permission from his principal, takes leave from school and goes ask his high school friends, the nerds, the jocks and the cherries to all help him.

However there were many people who oppose his decision. The Dj wants to build a Theme park and big Shopping Mall over the small town, and have huge parties every night.

While the rich business tycoon agriculturist wants it gone so that they can build a large multi acre farm, and expand his company, and the military wants to make a new military base over the land. And so these three villains decide to wreak Nelly’s plans.

But Nelly is aware of the thousands of homeless people, his own people in his home town. He faces many threats and taunting from these three villains, but he manages to overcome them all.

Later he also faces different opposition from his own people in the camp where they are working, such as bullying, extortion and money lending.

However one by one, Nelly overcomes all his obstacles and with the help of God and his friends, they are able to rebuild the whole town in just 52 days.
