Issues like anti-conversion bill will not deter us: Dr. Keyho

October 21, 2017 | by admin

Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) general secretary, Rev. Dr. Zelhou Keyho on Friday urged upon all to pray for Nagaland so that the mission of God would grow in leaps and bounds. Despite a scheme like that of the anti-conversion bill and the persecution of believers, the mission of God would continue to grow stronger, Dr. Keyho said this while speaking on the second day of the 48th National Convention of the Indian Evangelical Mission (IEM) under the theme “fullness in Christ (Col 1:19)” at Dimapur Ao Baptist Arogo (DABA).
“All these problems will not deter us from proclaiming the word of God”, he said.
Presenting his message from John 3:16, Dr. Keyho said that it was a memory verse read by Sunday school children and that many who cherish the scripture usually miss out on its depth. He said that we were all here because of the very verse that so briefly summarises God’s love for humanity and the way of salvation. He encouraged the people to use the golden scripture as an instrument to proclaim the word of God to a world that is constantly hurting.
Dr. Keyho said that the very message came to the Nagas through missionaries that had no idea there was a place in the world called Nagaland. He said that the first Naga who was converted in 1847 died of Cholera after a short while and that there were two others that were converted yet not much was known about them. Dr. Keyho said that the only clear first converted was one by the name Supongmeren in 1872 when E.W Clark came to Nagaland. He added that it was that same year in December 22 when the first Church was built in Nagaland. “That is what a story of love is. A love that God always had for Nagas”, Dr. Keyho said.
“We are all transformed and touched by the love of God but love doesn’t stop there. Love demands all and I believe we are here because of that”, Keyho said. He said that while hate seeks to destroy, love seeks to rescue and therefore, we should be rescuers and as children of love, we must shine our light where there was darkness. He further added that this was the message of the mission church and urged all believers to be torchbearers of the Gospel as this was our call.
Earlier, pastor of Yikhum Baptist Church chaired the programme, invocation was pronounced by Rev. Thick, missionary sharing by Mingthing, special songs by Khuda Baptist Church convention choir and Sangtam Baptist Church Dimapur.
IEM 48th National would continue till October 22 with Bible study by OMF international director East Asia South, Rev. Dr. Sydney Henry and various resource persons including Rev. Dr. Z. Keyho, general secretary IEM, Dr. Raja Singh Elias and HoD Church Ministries IEM, brother Jenny Christopher.
