
Sao Chang College, Tuensang observed its 43rd Cultural Day on September 18 at the College Auditorium under the theme ‘Cultural Mosaic’ with EAC, Tuensang-Vikhoto Richa as the chief guest.
Richa in his speech said culture was a way of living that teaches the people to understand what was right or wrong in their conducts. Traditional norms and customs are the pillar of any society, because it gives us a sense of belonging and also helps to maintain one’s identity. We have a rich cultural heritage and customs which it also taught us to possess values like honesty, simplicity, hospitality, respect for elders and dignity of labour but we hardly put to use all these values in our day to day lives and now, with the passage of time those values are diminishing from our society, he said.
Adding it was high time to protect and preserve “our” rich valued culture so that we do not lose our identity in the face of the world. He encouraged the students to develop work culture because the present generation is facing a huge problem of un-employment so to overcome this un-employment problem students must cultivate the habit of hard work so as to sustain in this competitive society.
Principal of the college Chubasangla in a short speech exhorted the students to be well-versed about one’s culture and its origin. She said that every cultural item has it rich significance and are also unique in its own ways. She cited that our forefathers were so intelligent and creative in designing and signifying various cultural items. She further encouraged the students to learn and value even other community’s cultural importance for promoting peace and harmonious society.
During the day, folk dance competition, cock fight competition and traditional attire displayed by the students were held.
