
School Education minister, Tokheho Yepthomi, Tuesday described teaching as a noble profession and said teachers were the real source of knowledge and wisdom.
Addressing the State-level Teachers’ Day celebration held at NBCC convention hall here, the minister extended greetings to the teachers and asserted that they were the key to the future of the state and nation.
Tokheho said the feeling of worthiness and significance of teachers comes to light when they were no longer involved in one’s life anymore.
He said it was the teacher who builds the foundation of students’ future destiny.
Asserting that the state was facing many challenges especially in the field of education, the minister said the state needed to be pro-active as the foundation laid today for the future generation seemed to be precarious because of the large number of educated unemployed youth in the state. Informing that tough decisions needed to be taken to bring about change, Tokheho said during the course of taking certain decisions few people would be displeased, but maintained that such decisions would rescue lakhs of students and would build the state.
He cautioned that the teachers would be responsible if they failed to discharge their duties. Tokheho also reminded that the future of the students cannot be sacrificed. He appealed to the teachers to strive for excellence and commit for igniting knowledge and imparting quality of education in the state.
Meanwhile, Tokheho announced that the HRD ministry has conveyed to the principal secretary school education that teachers appointed prior to September 3, 2001 would be exempted from undergoing TET training. However, he said that it would be subjected to the official notification from MHRD.
The minister also announced that in view of the Teacher’s Day celebrations, the government of Nagaland has declared September 6, 2017 as holiday for all the schools.
On the occasion, 16 teachers from across the state were honoured with “Teachers of the Year 2017 award” while Mhabeni Murry, PT GPS Wokha and Teisovilhou Koza, senior graduate teacher GHSS Pfutsero Phek, were selected for national award.
Earlier, in her welcome note, principal director school education, Smita Sarangi, said while parents played an important role in shaping the lives of their children, it was the teachers who were endowed with the greater role for they shape and bring up generations.
ANPSA advisor, Pheluopfelie Kesiezie, also spoke on the occasion.
The programme was chaired by principal secretary, school education & SCERT, FP Solo.
In chairman remark, Solo informed about the MHRD notice on exemption of TET training and also informed that teacher’s day flag was supposed to be sold only within the school compound.
Minister’s Hill Baptist Higher Secondary School, Kohima offered gifts to all the teachers present at the function.
