Referring to the Food Safety & Standard Act 2006 in the state, the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has drawn up a complaint by one consumer in regard to spoiled and smelly chicken bun purchased at Friends Bakery, Mohonkhola Kohima.
A press note by NVCO press & media cell stated that on May 22, one Kediseto Tase had bought chicken bun at Friends Bakery, Mohonkhola Kohima on May 22 at around 10:30 a.m. However, on reaching home and opening the package, the bun was found to be smelly and spoiled, whereupon Kediseto went back to the bakery to complaint. The Friends Bakery was adamant that the bun was freshly made in the morning and was not in a position to accept the wrong. Kediseto even brought the bun as evidence, whereupon the bakery admitted that they got their supply from Popular Bakery.
It stated that Kediseto approached the NVCO president with his grievance. NVCO in this light had condemned the act of the food operator particularly Friends Bakery, stating that this case had to be dealt with seriously as it concerned citizens’ health especially the innocent and ignorant consumers. It also stated that government and the CMO Kohima had earlier informed the food business operators including hotels, restaurants, provisions, bakeries, groceries, home based canteens of schools/colleges, office, tea stall, street food vendors, etc. to obtain food safety license/registration and as per the Act the Food Safety Officer should check all these food business operators.
