With the rest of the world, Trained Nurses Association of India Kohima branch celebrated the international Nurses Day under the theme “A voice to lead- achieving the sustainable development goals” with managing director Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) Dr. Neikhrielie Khimia-o as the chief guest at DBT conference hall NHAK on Friday.
Dr. Khimia-o in his address congratulated and appreciated all the nurses on the auspicious day for their yeomen services to the people. He said because of their hard work and patience they gained recognition and respect in their profession. He also reminded the essential qualities of a nurse like punctuality, truthfulness, hard work, neatness, good behaviour and caring.
He further reminded them that the patients expected the nurses to be polite, gentle, well mannered, good treatment as a father or mother or brother and sister. Citing the example of Florence nightingale, he urged the nurses to be a model.
Principal SON NHAK L. Watimongla in her introduction on the theme shared the sustainable development goals (SDGS) adopted by the United Nations in 2015 to replace the millennium development goals (MDGS). She said it consisted of 17 goals covering broad range of sustainable development issues, wherein 191 UN member states had agreed to achieve these new goals by 2030.
She said we needed a change in political mindsets and therefore nurses should have a voice for change.
The programme was chaired by Visasie Guozi nursing tutor SON NHAK, invocation prayer by Vikepu Tepa chaplain NHAK, lamp lighting done by Nzhüle Semy nursing superintendent NHAK, special song presented by second year students and vote of thanks by Rita Angami president TNAI Kohima branch.
