Lok Adalt (Peoples Court) was held across the state, organized by District Legal Services Authorities in respective district headquarters comprising of District Legal Services Authority officials, presiding judges, conciliators, police personnel, bank officials and parties involved in various cases.
256 cases were referred for settlement before the National Lok Adalat among which 47 cases were settled and disposed mostly on bank recovery cases and criminal compoundable cases. The total settlement amount involved in the disposed cases amounted to Rs. 22,02,544.
The Lok Adalat sittings and proceedings were carried out at the District Court Buildings and some of the proceedings were also conducted in local dialects. The District & Sessions Judge, Chief Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judges were the Presiding Judge/Officers along with the conciliators appointed from among the advocates, panel lawyers, retainer lawyers, legal aid counsels, social workers, and para legal volunteers who were instrumental in bringing the Lok Adalat to a big success in the state.
It may be mentioned that Lok Adalat is for speedy, inexpensive and amicable settlement of cases based on the concept of conciliated settlement of disputes reducing the backlog existing in the Justice delivery system. The system of Lok Adalat minimizes litigation expenditure and there was no court fee.
