The Medziphema Town GB Union (MTGBU) has appealed Nagaland government to do away with the requirement of aadhar card for the time being and that more time should be granted for it to be implemented and not as notified by September 20, 2017.
A press note by MTGBU secretary, Rokovitso Kuotsu stated that the union held a deliberation on the requirement of aadhaar card for availing PHH/AAY ration card. While appreciating the government for implementing welfare schemes for the poor and needy, the GBs have also urged the concerned authorities to consider the practical difficulties faced by the beneficiaries in producing an aadhaar card.
MTGBU stated that aadhaar card was not instantly obtainable and to produce the required documents such as PRC/ST/indigenous certificates, the applicant has to go back to his/her hometown/native village which was time consuming. MTGBU also pointed out that even after completing all formalities, an applicant had to wait for some days or even months for the aadhaar card to be generated.
MTGBU was also of the opinion that if Nagaland government could withhold/postpone the municipal elections on the ground that it violated Article 371 (A) of the Indian constitution, it should also do away with the requirement of aadhaar for the same reasons.
