A career journalist of repute, Dinesh Kumar, who has covered militancy in Punjab from 1986 to 2001, as defence correspondent for The Indian Express and Times of India gave a vivid and deep insight into the working of media to Army officers of Rangapahar Military Station.
According to a defense release, visiting journalist touched on various trends in media, aspects military commanders need to know and how to cope up with media pressures.
He also highlighted various media nuances and recommended measures to deal various situations by military commanders, especially in counter insurgency operations to Army’s advantage, said the release.
During the interactive session with the audience, Dinesh replied to a flurry of questions from the section of audience. He advised the Army officials to exploit the strength & weaknesses of the media to their advantage.
He maintained that for better perspective and correct reporting by the media, Army should conduct regular interaction with the media. General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Corps, Lt Gen RK Loomba expressed gratitude to visiting journalist for his educative talk, while exhorted all Army officers to face the challenges of modern day media with professionalism and élan.
