Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) has welcomed the meeting organised by Nagaland State Women Commission on February 13 for discussion on the issue of 33% reservation seats for women in Lok Sabha and in the State Assembly.
ENWO in a press statement issued by its president has suggested that the parliament put forward an alternative suggestion such as bringing down the percentage or to suggest for nomination of certain percentage without affecting the existing constituencies as special dissension for the tribal state. The organisation said that it were working in a co-ordinated manner with ENPO/ENSF and tribal presidents within the ENPO jurisdiction, as such it needed to take support and confidence of various tribal leaders, hohos to arrive at the workable formula while welcoming the proposed bill.
ENWO stated that organisations needed to make people understand the importance of women’s representatives in parliament as well as in the state legislative assembly. It also stated that women needed to debate from the bottom level to understand the matter in question to avoid hasty conclusion ENWO further stated that the reservation issue needed thorough discussion at all levels and also to gain the confidence and support of all political parties and tribal leaders to pass the bill.
