Angami Students’ Union to start verification drive

Premier apex student body Angami Students Union (ASU) would start the month-long verification drive for the current year of non-locals till July 15.
Informing this, Angami Students Union officials said verification drive for 2009 of non-locals was a measure to check illegal migrants for research and analysis program to tackle illegal migrants amalgamated in and round Kohima district.
Non-locals have been directed to report to Angami Students Union office premises starting 10 am to 4 pm daily from June 15 and also to get their Inner Line Permit verified.
Angami Students Union also asked non-locals to submit ILP card, along with two stamps size passport for verification.
Further Angami Students Union also requested the support of general public in the verification drive to deliver tangible and sustainable results. Meanwhile, it was learnt that around 8000 non-locals were registered in the drive carried by Angami Students Union in 2008, which was far below the actual figures.
Last year figures showed Hindus has the maximum followed by Muslims, Nepalis, Tibetans and others. The figures included non-locals from 17 different professions such as business, labour, sales man, carpenter, driver, tailors, barber, tea ferry, mechanics, milk man, cobblers, painters, paper hawkers, teachers, electricians, mason and others.
