DOTS Plus services is expected to roll out in two phases in Nagaland. The first phase is expected to be launched by December at TB Hospital Khuzama which would cover Kohima, Dimapur, Kiphire, Peren, Phek and Wokha.
Subsequently, in the 2nd Phase, TB Hospital Mokokchung would cater to the remaining five districts. Investigation and treatment will also be free of cost.
The much awaited DOTS plus services refers to DOTS programmes that add components for MDR-TB diagnosis, management and treatment.
The prevalence of multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB), defined as resistance to Isoniazid and Rifampicin with or without resistance to other drugs.
This was announced at a two-day training on DOTS plus for medical officers of Kohima district conducted by Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) at conference hall, directorate of health& family welfare on November 17 and 18.
Various topics were covered such as management of MDR TB, treatment and duration, DOTS Plus vision etc.
In India, 10 states are implementing DOTS plus services while another 5 states would be initiating the services shortly.
Dr. John Sweyievisa, joint director, RCH lauded doctors for their contribution toward the programme and added that their efforts had helped district of Kohima in achieving and maintaining National targets .Dr. K.T. Lotha state TB officer, Dr. Vezokholü DTO Kohima,
Dr Asünü SMO TB Hospital Khuzama and Dr. Apichetla, assistant programme officer were the resource person during the training.
Around 20 medical officers attended the training. State TB Officer (RNTCP) Dr. K.T. Lotha in a press release stated that similar trainings for medical officers will be conducted all across the state in the ensuing months where the in service doctors would be trained on DOTS plus for management of MDR TB cases.
