With the DMC failing to implement a proper and regular collection system, garbage is piling up in almost all dumping bins at Firing Range colony and Lengrijan colony, posing serious threat to the health of residents.
Heaps of garbage remain unattended for several months at the dumping bin in Firing Range colony and bin behind community hall of Lingrijan colony.
Residents are forced to throw the waste on the street corners and even roadsides owing to the absence of effective garbage collection system.
“Sanitary workers come till ADC court junction to collect garbage regularly. They carry out waste collection only in a few streets but do not come to Firing Range and Lingrijan colony, resulting in piling up of garbage on roads,” one of the residents pointed out.
GB of Firing Range colony while interacting with this reporter said, though the council had asked the DMC to clear the garbage on many occasions, piles of garbage still remain to be cleared.
Unattended garbage, strewn around dumpsters at several places along the main roads has become an eyesore of sorts for residents and has also attracted many stray dogs adding up to already appalling stench garbage.
The residents have urged the civic body to remove the garbage from the two colonies on a daily basis.
It may be noted that poor sanitary condition in the colony is not only affecting the health of residents but to the patients at the nearby Assam Riffles unit hospital.
