March 28 was a red letter day for the people of Phelungre as the government middle school at Phelungre village was upgraded to high school.
District education officer (DEO) Kiphire Arenjenba, lauding the efforts of the school management said teachers should be sincere in their duty and should mould the students in the right direction.
Gratifying the cooperation rendered by Phelungre villagers, he appealed to the villagers to extend support and cooperation to the department so as to maintain a close relationship.
He also said that the up-gradation of high school was for the villagers and thus all materials such as school building, furniture, etc., should be maintained and taken care as it belonged to the public.
ADC (SSA) T. Kirithong Sangtam, who also spoke at the programme, said Phelungre GMS was one of the best schools among 139 schools in Kiphire.
Acknowledging the government for providing the needs of the students such as free uniforms, textbook, and students’ material, he encouraged the students to study hard so as to accomplish their goal. Others who spoke on the occasion were Yongsukhyong 2nd GB and S.K. James VCM.
The program was chaired by P. Tsaseto Chairman VEC Phelungre and welcome speech was delivered by K. Litsamong VCC and vote of thanks by M. Choli head teacher GMS Phelungre.
