AYO slams NSCN (K) ‘high-handedness’

Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) Thursday strongly condemned what it described as “high-handedness” of NSCN (K) ‘mobile V Naga Army’ under the command of ‘col.’ Koruchu Pochury of Phor village for “continually harassing and threatening” the workers of Thepfüsatuo Rio.

According to Khrielievi Chüsi AYO president and Kevi Rio auditor general, Thepfüsatuo, a class-I contractor under M/s Hexad Syndicate, has been undertaking developmental works at the Mimi-Khonga-Hakumuthi sector in Kiphire District under PMGSY Phase-VIII. They said that on March 15, two of Rio’s workers (site in-charges) were kidnapped along with their vehicle (a Maruti Gypsy) by NSCN (K). After several rounds of negotiations both were released on April 18, but only after signing an agreement letter “under duress”.

The signatories disclosed that on April 9, NSCN (K) cadres spent a night in the labourer’s main base and on April 10 morning, took away the contractor’s four tipper trucks, one Mahindra pick-up and one excavator (JCB) .

AYO said all the seized the machineries were in the custody of the NSCN (K), and all the labourers ordered to leave the work site. AYO said the reason for the NSCN (K) action was the allegation that the contractor was not cooperating with their commander on taxation. The signatories also said family members and friends of Thepfüsatuo made several appeals to the NSCN (K) to release the machineries and pave way for developmental activities.

AYO has also appealed to NSCN (K) authority to ensure safety of the workers and to release the machineries. It also appealed to all to condemn such “high-handedness” committed in the guise of nationalism.
