Post Graduate Students’ Union (PGSU) of the three campuses of Nagaland University (NU) have appreciated the concern shown by the State government in forming a committee headed by the chief secretary to look into the ongoing crisis in NU.
A joint statement issued by PGSU presidents of the three campuses also appreciated the concern shown and steps taken by NGOs, hohos, students’ and civil organizations towards resolving the crisis.
“Their concern and initiation to resolve the most needed need of the students will go to the annals of the university history,” PGSU said.
The union also appealed to the teachers and vice chancellor, Nagaland University, to resolve their differences in the most amicable way in the larger interest of the students.
Meanwhile, in a letter to the vice chancellor, the PGSU reminded that the union’s ultimatum served to the vice chancellor on September 2, had expired September 8.
“We are pained to note that till the expiry of our ultimatum our demand of uninterrupted resumption of academic activities was left attended. However, in the larger interest of the University in particular and our society in general, we have sacrificially resolved not to take immediate course of action,” the letter said.
It also stated that the “unanimous decision” of the PGSU came after a successful deliberation with the committee formed by the State Government headed by the Chief Secretary and other NGOs and student bodies.
“Our interest is to pave way for discussion, understanding and amicable solution to the ongoing crisis in the University,” the union said.
However, PGSU cautioned that in the event of failure to resolve the ongoing differences between the VC’s office and NUTA within “permitted patience,” the union would be compelled to take its own course of action without any further notice.
