One person was killed and eight others injured, one critically when a firewood laden truck in which they were traveling overturned on the New Secretariat road near Billy Graham road junction Kohima, Monday afternoon.
The truck (NL-01 A 7484) belonging to Prakash & Co ferrying nine labourers of the same Company was proceeding towards New Secretariat when the accident occurred at around 1.30 pm.
One Ajay (25) of Tiwari distrist from UP succumbed to his injuries at the Naga Hospital, Kohima.
The driver of the truck fled from the scene soon after the accident. Sitting MLA Deo Nukhu and Roko Kire who arrived on the scene soon after the accident helped the injured rush to Naga Hospital, Kohima.
The injured persons were identified as Hirahar Singh (45), Ramu, Babu, Raju (30), Moklal (35), Hira Singh (55), Mishra (44) incharge of labourer and Phoolchand. Among them, the former was reportedly in a critical condition.
Police said the cause of the accident was under investigation.
