AKD celebrates Sekrenyi

Angami Krotho Delhi (AKD) celebrated its Sekrenyi Festival with pomp and festivity at new Dilli Haat, Pitampura, Delhi, on February 28 with a good turn up from members and guests.
The programme started in the evening with president AKD, Dr. Kevisetuo A. Dzeyie welcoming the members to the Annual Sekrenyi celebration.
The cultural troupe of AKD enthralled the audience with their melodious voice singing to the traditional folk tune and with their folk dance.
The Zeliangrong Students’ Union Delhi (ZSUD) with their beautiful folk tune added to the beauty of the celebration. The meaning of Sekrenyi (Sekrenyi ca) was narrated by Kuolie Mere (PRO Nagaland House Delhi), where he highlighted the richness of the festival. Sekrenyi also known as Phousanyi is a time to mark the renewal and cleansing of the men folks of the community and imploring blessing of the Almighty for the year ahead.
A play on Sekrenyi was beautifully acted out by some AKD members depicting the various events that take place during the Sekrenyi Festival.
Rev. Dr. N. Ricky Medom (Pastor NCF Delhi) exhorted each and every member to have personal discipline and actively contribute to the community, taking example from the success of the communist movement in early decades of 20th century.
The new executive for the tenure 2009 to 2010 were elected on this occasion with Kecakielie, Thejakhrienuo Nisa and Neikuo Khezhie as the President of the AKD, Genenal Secretary and President Angami Students’ Union Delhi respectively. The new executives were inducted with a blessing by Rev. Dr. N. Ricky Medom and words from both outgoing and the new president of AKD.
The celebration was also marked by the release of Telephone Directory by Ashie Khieya (Additional Commisioner IRS- Custom and Excise).The celebration came to a conclusion with the congregation rising to their feet to sing the beautiful ARA KEZIVI, followed by Sekrenyi Feast with Muodi.
Ketouvilie and Kevisonuo Kire were the host and hostess for the evening.
Further, the Krotho thanked Delhi Tourism for the venue and their support, 1st Battalion NAP for all their timely help, ZSUD for their partnership and in particular Chief Minister Nagaland Neiphiu Rio, DRC Nagaland House Khrienuo Metha and Teisovise Metha, Deputy Commandant 1st Battalion NAP for their support and help, and also to those who generously contributed towards the success of the celebration.
