KPC,NPCC,BJYM condemn assault

The Kohima Press Club, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee and the Bharatya Janata Yuva Manch, have in separate statements, condemned the assault on the reporter of Nagaland Post in Dimapur and also the killing of an editor of an Assamese daily in Assam.

Kohima Press Club (KPC) has condemned the killing of Anil Majumadar, editor of ‘Aji’, an Assamese daily at Guwahati and also the assault on the a reporter and driver of Nagaland Post by miscreants at Dimapur on March 24. KPC president Mhalezolie Kire and general secretary Narain B. Sagar in a statement said atrocities on members of the fourth estate was uncalled-for, especially when the media persons were trying to reach the mass populace with information while working under several constraints.
On the two incidents, the KPC urged law enforcing agencies in Assam and Dimapur to book the culprits involved by awarding exemplary punishment under appropriate sections of the law.
It has also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed Almighty God to grant strength and solace besides eternal rest of the departed soul.
Further, KPC noted that despite regular frisking and patrolling by police and security forces in Dimapur , miscreants were moving freely without proper vehicle registration numbers and creating nuisance in public places.
NPCC
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed “shock” and anguish on the recent attacks perpetrated to the media persons in the cities of Dimapur and Guwahati.
According to NEPS, NPCC president KV Pusa in a statement Thursday strongly condemned the attacks on the scribes by the unidentified miscreants. He said the manner in which around 10 unidentified miscreants attacked a reporter (Sebastian Ezung) of Nagaland Post on March 24 Dimapur Town was nothing short of “barbarism and madness.” Demanding the law enforcement agencies to bring those culprits to book without further delay, the NPC C president also demanded for an inquiry into the entire “unfortunate” incident.
Meanwhile, Pusa has also strongly condemned the killing of an Editor of an Assamese Daily by some unidentified gunmen on March 24 at the heart of Guwahati.
Stating that the people should come out against the culture of targeting and eliminating of media persons, he said the media persons were only giving a “yeoman service” to the society irrespective of their varied media house affiliations. “As such they should be treated with respect,” he pointed out adding, “one should also know how to respect each other’s professions.”
State BJYM
State BJYM has condemned the assault meted out to one journalist by unidentified miscreants on March 24 at Dimapur. A joint press statement issued by state BJYM president, K. James Vizo and general secretary, Chumbemo Ezung also questioned the administration “when a media person can be assaulted by any one how will a public move around in the public places”. It also urged the Dimapur DC and SP to book the culprits within “three days”, failing which it would take its own course of action, the release added.
