Lt Gen Avadesh Prakash, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, Colonel of Kumaon and Naga Regiments reached Nagaland today on a two-day maiden visit.
According to a defense release General Avadesh is the first officer to be commissioned in the elite Naga Regiment on its raising.
He commanded the first Naga battalion from 1989-91, and a Mountain Division in the East. He also holds the ever important appointment as Military Secretary besides being the Colonel of the Kumaon and Naga Regiments
As Commandant of IMTRAT Bhutan, he brought about radical changes to the setup, the benefits of which are being reaped by Bhutan.
Lt Gen Avadesh and chief minister, Neiphiu Rio have been primarily instrumental in providing Nagaland with the Home and Hearth Territorial Army Battalion, and are putting an all out effort to create two more TA Battalions- one Home and Hearth and the other, Ecological. The General would interact with the chief minister, governor, various civil and military dignitaries, the Naga soldiers and the Naga and Kumaon Regimental ex servicemen. All ex servicemen of the regiment have been invited for a special “Barakhana” at the 164 TA Battalion ground , Zakhama at 12 noon Friday.
