Exploring horticulture production

As the state progresses in the development of horticulture and organic farming, it drives other horticulture officials from other states to visit the natural production and share ideas and achievement of farming in the state.
With the motive to explore and exchange ideas in the development of horticulture, deputy director of horticulture, Bopol, S.R Asati paid a visit to various projects of horticulture in the state on Monday.
The deputy director along with Dimapur district horticulture officer (DHO), Eyongol Natso and various officials from horticulture department visited Molvom pineapple farm, vegetable village, New Chumukedima, Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema and other places. While visiting the Molvom pineapple farming, the organic farmers expressed that the lack of rainfall due to climatic changes and the spread of rodent disease have adversely affected the production of pineapple this year.
Molvom Pineapple Growers Society, secretary, Lithan asserted the production lamented the grievances of pineapple growers saying that due to heat and rodent diseases, the farmers could not market the products upto to their expectation. However, he stated the farmers do not face problems in marketing. According to the officials, the Molvom Pineapple Farm covers an area of 100 hectare with 170 organic farmers. The farmers approximately get a minimum net profit of Rs 50,000 to one lakh in a year which is profitable as compared to other types of farming in the state.
Commenting on the type of farming and favorable condition of climate in the production of horticulture, the deputy director encouraged the farmers look forward to produce more production and added it as satisfactory.
