Sugarcane farmers of Zunheboto district went on a two day exposure tour to Assam from May 4. The team visited Sugarcane Research Station, Dergaon under Assam Agriculture University (AAU).
The team lead by D.K.Chetri, SMS and Henito, AO under District Agriculture office Zunheboto interacted with scientist of the research station and much needed technical issues related to sugarcane were deliberated.
Dr L. Saikia, prof. and head of research station while welcoming the farmers said that with selection of good variety and post harvest management, sugarcane cultivation could fetch high return to small grower of hill areas.
Practical demonstration on ratoon management was also shown to the farmers. The team also visited Agriculture technology information centre (ATIC) in Jorhat and horticultural farm under AAU. The tour programme was sponsored by department of Agriculture, Nagaland under Sustainable Development for sugarcane based farming system (SUBAC). 27 farmers from different villages of the district participated in the tour programme.
